Gold, Cooper, Silver or Black: Choosing (and Caring For) Your Brass Finish

Handcrafted Moroccan brass table lamp with intricate filigree patterns and warm golden glow

Every design in our collection is available in four brass finish options: Gold, Cooper, Silver, and Black. The pattern and shape stay the same across all four, so the brass finish is really the main decision left to make once you have picked a style.

Gold

Gold is the warmest and most traditional of the four, and it is usually the finish that makes the perforated pattern most visible against the wall, since the brighter surface catches more ambient light before it is even switched on. It pairs naturally with warm wood tones, terracotta, and deep jewel-toned walls.

Cooper

Cooper has a softer, rosier warmth than gold, and tends to read as slightly more rustic or vintage. It works particularly well in rooms with warm neutral palettes, exposed brick, or natural wood furniture.

Silver

Silver is the coolest and most versatile of the finishes, and generally the easiest to place in a modern or minimalist interior, since it sits quietly alongside chrome or stainless steel fixtures elsewhere in the room.

Black

Black is the most contemporary option and the one that makes the cut-out pattern read most strongly as a graphic silhouette during the day, since the shape is what stands out rather than the metal tone itself. It suits interiors that already lean toward dark, moody color schemes.

Matching your brass finish to existing hardware

As a simple rule, try to loosely match your lamp finish to the metal tone already present in the room, door handles, taps, mirror frames, so the new piece feels intentional rather than mismatched. It does not need to be an exact match, just the same general warm or cool family.

Basic care tips

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent buildup inside the perforated pattern
  • Avoid household cleaning sprays or abrasive cloths directly on the brass, since these can dull the finish over time
  • If the lamp is in a humid room such as a bathroom, wipe it down slightly more often to prevent moisture spots
  • A light natural patina developing over time is normal for brass and cooper finishes, and many owners consider it part of the piece’s character rather than a flaw

Brass naturally develops a patina over time, which is part of why each brass finish ages a little differently. Browse all four brass finish options across our full collection to compare how each one looks on your favorite design.
