Moroccan Pendant Light Size Guide: How to Choose the Right Fit

Elegant Moroccan flat brass ceiling light with refined floral engravings and golden ambiance

Choosing a Moroccan pendant light is about more than finding a design you love. The fixture should feel balanced in the room, sit at a comfortable height, and leave enough space around the table or walkway. Use these measurements before you choose a size.

Measure the space first

Note the length and width of the room, the ceiling height, and the dimensions of the furniture below the pendant. For a dining or kitchen table, measure the tabletop rather than the whole room: the fixture should relate to the table and leave a visible margin on every side. A very wide shade can overwhelm a small table, while a tiny pendant may disappear over a long surface.

Choose a diameter that fits the furniture

Stand back and picture the pendant in the room before ordering. You can cut a paper or cardboard circle to the proposed diameter and hold it in position, or use a tape measure to mark its width on the floor. This simple mock-up helps you judge whether the shade will feel too dominant, too small, or well-proportioned. For a long table or island, compare one wider fixture with a balanced row of smaller pendants.

Plan the hanging height

Over a dining table, center the fixture over the tabletop and keep it high enough to preserve clear sightlines. Our room-by-room Moroccan pendant placement guide gives a useful starting range of about 75 to 90 cm above a dining surface. Treat this as a planning reference: the actual height depends on the pendant, people using the space, ceiling, and room layout.

In a hallway or other walking area, consider head clearance and the paths people use. For an island, check that the pendant will not obstruct conversation or work. Confirm the fixture’s installation requirements and final mounting height with the manufacturer or a qualified electrician, and follow applicable local rules.

Remember the light pattern

A pierced brass shade casts patterned light as well as downward illumination. A larger or more open shade can project its design over a wider area; the effect also depends on the bulb and surrounding surfaces. Consider where the light and shadows will land, whether the fixture is meant to provide room-wide ambience or a more focused pool, and whether you need other light sources nearby.
